Glimmers of Hope in the Hiatus

Hey WoW-ERS, I’m thinking about you and hope you are healthy and safe. The world has screeched to a halt – and bizarrely, depleting toilet roll on supermarket shelves has become the poster product of the challenging times.

None of us could have predicted the scale of the Coronavirus pandemic, nor the grim realities it bodes on lives, health, economies, livelihoods, closures and more. In all this, humanity’s incredible resilience and ingenuity peek through. All over the world, an overwhelming sentiment of “we’re in this together” has renewed conviction in how connected we all are.

That the world is closing in on us shouldn’t mean we close ourselves to the world.

To those at the frontline shoring us all up with your work and service: THANK YOU.

Despite the circumstances, let’s find the glimmers of hope in this hiatus. Pick up a new skill or hone an existing one. Check in on others. Begin that passion project you always wanted to. Start on your ever-growing “to be read” pile. Catch up on your favourite blogs. Find the magic in the mundane. Or, do nothing – that, too, is valid.

We may not know how this will unfold. What we do hope for, as lovers of travel, is a time when we will catch the trade winds in our sail again and discover more wonders in our wanders.

It is in this vein I’ll be bringing you the “Armchair Series”, indulging in our shared wanderlust while travel is temporarily on hold.

As I’ve always said, travel is in the experiences we open ourselves to. It is as much about (re)discovering a place as it is losing yourself in a good story, connecting with people or evoking landscapes in the taste of a simple meal. While we’re grounded in various stages of lockdown, I hope WoW continues to play its part in helping you laugh, dream, plan and explore from afar.

Continue to shine your light wherever you are. Stay safe.

Much love,
Davida
